Hey, thanks for stopping by!

Prairie Rose Farmstead blog about me sidebar image

We’re Sage and Jessi, the faces behind this farmstead. We turn goat milk and herbs into skin-loving products, grow a large portion of our own food, and create nourishing farm-to-table recipes, all while growing our family and enjoying this natural way of life. Follow along for all the inspiration and know-how so you can too!

Here's your push. Start the garden. Now. Trust m Here's your push.

Start the garden. Now. Trust me, we've been behind schedule all year but guess what, it's okay. We're still harvesting tons of food.

It's not too late, I promise. Go to the nursery, buy established plants. Try soil bag growing, container gardening, whatever you have to do. Just get something growing.

It will be the most rewarding and satisfying thing you may ever do. There's too many benefits to list.

Already have a garden? Now's the perfect time to get another succession of warm season annuals going.

I don't care what your "but's" and "I can't because's" are. Just plant.

Feeling so grateful for all of God's glory this evening ❤️

Now tell me, what's your favorite thing to grow? Or something your most excited to start growing? ⬇️

How do you feel about your skin? Unfortunately it How do you feel about your skin?

Unfortunately it's easy to judge our skin harshly, comparing to picture perfect versions of radiant, "healthy' skin (which usually comes from a bottle or a photo filter!) 📷 It's easy to feel like we're too oily or too dry, too light, too dark, too pink or too brown... Anything except perfect.

Handcrafted soaps and herbal skin care is one way to say "thank you" to the skin you're in, while giving yourself a little love too. 💖

When you're sudsing up with a creamy goat milk soap, smoothing on a lotion stick or body butter, healing a painful area with a salve, or soaking in a hot milk or herbal bath at the end of a long day, you can choose to affirm the beauty, strength, and capacity of your incredible skin. And by caring for your skin in some very practical ways, you can look and feel your best from the outside in. 🙌

Pictured is our Frankincense & Myrrh goat milk soap. All of our handcrafted products are scented with pure essential oils and colored naturally with plants and clays. Gentle, soothing and non toxic, just the way skin care should be.

I want to send a huge thank you out to everyone th I want to send a huge thank you out to everyone that made the Shead Farm Homestead Festival happen. Why goat milk soap? 🥛 Honestly, when we starte Why goat milk soap? 🥛

Honestly, when we started using goat milk in our soap, it was just because we had a glut of it, and it sounded fun. Right away though, I realized this soap is different, a lot different!

After doing a bit of research I learned that the lactic acid in goat milk, with other naturally present acids, work to exfoliate dead skin, providing a gentle clean without stripping and irritating the skin. It does this by breaking down the bonds between dead cells so that your younger, fresher skin beneath can emerge. Ultimately, this means that it is ideal for all skin types, including sensitive skin, babies, or those with skin conditions.

Have you tried our goat milk soaps? If so, leave a comment below and let me know what you think!

Self Reliance vs. Community Importance... I'm so Self Reliance vs. Community Importance...

I'm so glad this is a topic in the #backtoprairieliving challenge because it is one of my favorite things to talk about.

We were once "every man for himself" thinkers. This was in the very beginning of our homestead journey and we felt because we were doing very unconventional things everyone was against us. Well we were right and wrong 😆 There's always going to be nay-sayers and Debbie-downers but overall we received so much support and interest in the way we were doing things.

Insert 2020:
People started coming to us for help starting a garden. Some bought chickens and goats to start their own flocks and herds. Others came to the farm to purchase fresh produce and eggs because they have no space to grow their own.

And this is when we realized, we all need each other to be able to learn, grow and evolve. This is how the world is meant to be. All for one, one for all. Those who support us are enabling us to grow our farm to be able to help more members of the community. It's a beautiful cycle and we're so fortunate to be a part of it. 🙌

*Edited to add:
All this is not say we aren't self reliant, we are! Whatever you do, don't rely on the government 😆 #knowyourfarmer
